Well the Merrimac Spring Sports are sponsoring the 1st annual town wide equipment swap.  The Spring Gear Swap will take place this Saturday.  Bring down your slightly used sports equipment that you are sick of tripping over and see if someone else in town may be able to use it.  If you know that your son or daughter needs a bigger pair of cleats or a larger glove, come on down and see if there is one that fits.

All Spring sports gear is welcome, including cleats, gloves, bats, sticks, pads, etc.  All donated equipment that is not distributed at the end of the day will be collected by the various sports teams will either be stored for future equipment swaps or donated to a local charity

AA Evaluations 2014 at Sweetsir School
by posted 03/25/2014

Our AA division is typically comprised of 1st, 2nd, and some 3rd graders, and occassionally a Kindergarten child who has had 2 years in T-ball.

This year we have a very large group of AA kids, which means that we will likely have 5-6 teams.  This is great, great news.  It also means that we will have to establish teams that are fairly equal in competition level.  To do this, we are holding 'evaluations' this Saturday, March 29th, 2014.  The evaluations will be held at the Sweetsir School from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  You may bring your child anytime between 10 and 12 for the evaluation.  We expect that the evaluation will take approximately a 1/2 hour.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, you may respond to this email, or call me at (617) 999-5624.

Thanks for your support.

2014 Season Registration is Now Open
by posted 12/30/2013

Registration for the 2014 season is now open.  It's very, very important this year to register by February 1st.  NOTE:  It is not necessary to pay the registration fee by February 1st, but it is important to register your child(ren) for the season.

The reason for the 'push' on registrations is our partnership this year with the Inter-Town Baseball League.  Because of the high number of teams at the Majors and Minors levels, scheduling games is critical and time-consuming.  The ITBL needs to know the total number of teams by February 1st.  Because of this, we've added an 'Early Bird Registration' for registrations prior to February 1st, and late fees for registrations after February 1st.

Children who register prior to February 1st will receive a free T-shirt!!  We're looking forward to a great, great baseball season with your family!!

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please call Jason Edic at (617) 999-5624 or email me at .

Best regards and Happy New Year!

First Annual Pentucket Tri-Town Adult Softball Tourney
by posted 10/06/2013

The 2013 First Annual Pentucket Tri-town adult softball tournament took place today at the Merrimac Little League field with the Merrimac Penal League (3-0) coming out as the Champs.  Only three teams took the field for the first annual but it was a fight for the Trophy and bragging rights.

The day started out with the Summer St. Swingers (Merrimac) coached by Dave Coco and the Over the Hill Gang (Merrimac) coached by Tim Cavanaugh and Mike Deziel.  Hard fought game was won by Summer St. Swingers which then advanced on to take on Merrimac Penal League coach by Jason Edic.   Merrimac Penal League got on the board early and hung on to the lead to take the win.  The next game featured the Merrimac Penal League vs. Over the Hill Gang.  Merrimac Penal league kept the bats hot and took down the Over the Hill Gang in the third game of the day.  The final championship game had Merrimac Penal League taking on the Summer St. Swingers.  Summer St. Swingers got some runs early to take the lead but couldn’t hold off the bats and base running of the Merrimac Penal League.

Congrats to the First Annual Pentucket Tri-town adult softball tournament champs: Merrimac Penal League.

The Reds Win the AAA Playoffs!!
by posted 07/01/2013

2013 Reds - Playoff Champions!
The Merrimac Reds took home the Playoff Championship on June 21st, beating the Groveland A's by a score of 18-5 (pay no attention to the shenanigans going on in the photo above)!  As they were all season, the bats were hot, and the pitching & defense were stellar on the muggy June night, as Merrimac rolled easily to the victory.  The team was managed by Mike Murphy, with coaches Mark Normandie, Steve Drummond, Jon Barholomew and Chuck Spaulding doing the heavy lifting.

Congratulations to players of the 2013 Merrimac Reds for bringing home the trophy!!  The Team: Justin Bartholomew, Alec Bewley, Isaiah Cannon, Ethan Drummond, Ethan Fay, Richard Labritz, Max Markuns, Anthony Moran, Mikey Murphy, Gage Normandie, John O'Bara, Hazen Pike and Zachary Spaulding.  Job well done boys.

Merrimac 50/70 Wins the Lighthouse Championship!
by posted 06/24/2013

Merrimac 50/70 Team
In a stunning victory, our Merimac 50/70 team captured the Lighthouse Championship by a score of 13-3 over the Salisbury Knuckleheads (that's the team name!).  Congratulations to Manager Jim Young, Coach Jon Gore, Coach Joe Couturier and the players: Nolan Mann, Kevin Couturier, Jayden Gore, Jake Slevoski, Jake Etter, Aaron Peavey, Danny Oteri, Trevor Distaso, Alex Satkus, Andrew Melone, Jacob Luke, Ethan Paszko and Griffin Young!

Despite not winning a game all season, the Merrimac NEBL 50/70 team was competitive in just about every game they played, often having a lead into the middle to latter innings in games.  All Season, Manager Jim Young played the balancing act of limiting his pitchers' workload in deference to their in-town game schedules.  With the in-town regular season complete for some of the team members, Jim had the freedom with his pitchers to hurl multiple innings in the playoff finale.  The result was limiting their counterparts to a season low 3 runs in the 7 inning game.  As they were all season long, the Merrimac bats remained hot and plated 13 runs on the day.  The 13-3 result gave Merrimac the inaugural Lighthouse Tournament Victory and the kids should be proud to sport their championship medals.
